About Food for Free:
Bridging the gap between waste and want since 1981
Food For Free responds to local hunger by rescuing fresh food that might otherwise go to waste and distributing it within the emergency food system, where it can reach those in need.
Food For Free’s largest program, Produce Rescue, distributes fresh fruits and vegetables to 82 local food programs that collectively serve about 25,000 individuals. Programs served include food pantries, emergency shelters, meal programs, clinics and youth centers. Food For Free distributed 1,020,000 pounds of food in 2011.
In addition to Produce Rescue, Food For Free’s other programs are Home Delivery, Field of Greens and, introduced recently, The Transportation Partnership. Program and other information is at www.foodforfree.org.
